Graceful, poised, and brilliantly white against deep, green-shadowed water, this striking portrait of a Great Egret captures the quiet majesty of one of the Rahway River’s most iconic visitors.

Titled A Moment of Grace, the photograph captures the egret standing tall and alert in the shallows of Nomahegan Park, its slender form mirrored in the still water below. At first glance, the water appears almost black, but look closer and you’ll discover layers of rich, deep greens woven through the shadows. The luminous white of the egret against these unexpected tones creates a dramatic contrast, while its reflection lends the composition a sculptural, almost abstract quality.

A Moment of Grace was also chosen as the cover image for There’s This River, Christine Dyer’s book celebrating the wildlife and natural beauty found along the Rahway River.
